Photographing The Total Lunar Eclipse December 20th and 21st 2010

A lunar (scientific term for the Moon) eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the shadow of earth, thus blocking light from our sun. Instead of turning the moon dark, it actually turns the \moon into a beautiful shade of red, the color of the earth’s shadow. The earth's shadow casts a red glow due to its atmosphere. Our atmosphere redirects light, through its dusty layer of air to the shades of red seen during the “umbra” of the eclipse, the time when the light of the sun is totally blocked by the earth.

Fall Color Photography

Autumn. A favorite time of year for many nature photographers. For those lucky enough to live in areas where you have 4 seasons, right now, early October is a special time. In the northern latitudes, colors are at peak or just past. In many areas, fall color is just starting to appear, and that means its time for nature photographers to get out their digital cameras, tripods and a circular polarizer and get out and photograph fall color.

The Humid Photographic Fog Effect

It wasn't on purpose. Out a few mornings ago, the light was just right. I wanted to add some images to my extensive "Amy's Garden" portfolio, the portfolio I've been building for years of Amy's garden. Flowers, plants, wildlife. The garden Amy has dedicated herself to cultivating for 13 years. I've been photographing it for 5 years now with plans on publishing a book of her nature efforts. Father and Son Landscape Photographers

INSPIRATION is the word of the day. As I've taught for years, the best way to be inspired, educated and motivated is to view the works of other photographers. Joining local camera clubs, reading the trade magazines every month, buying portfolio books from your local reseller or online is a great way to become inspired. Don't be afraid to purchase these from other photographers either. It helps promote eachother, and it will prove how open minded you are from learning from others.

Home Studio Lighting on the Cheap

If you don't have studio lighting equipment, or a set of 2 or three speedlights for your digital camera (either way, you're looking at a few thousand dollars worth of gear), but you want to do some cool indoor still life or portrait photography, here is a good way to approach it. Buy a couple of aluminum light reflectors and daylight balanced fluorescent lights from your local hardware store. Lets splurge! How about 3 reflectors and 3 daylight balanced light bulbs?
