Online Nature Photography Workshops Start Wednesday, September 1

Online Photo Workshops by Kevin MossTake an Online Workshop with Kevin Moss: Elements for Nature Photographers or Photoshop for Nature Photographers

Hello everyone, hope you had a wonderful September!

I have 2 workshops starting Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Both are on the subject of nature photography with one workshop concentrating on Photoshop Elements, and the other workshop for Photoshop users. The workshops are taught online at BetterPhoto. I’ve been an instructor there for over 3 years and have been teaching these two web-based workshops for some time. I’ve had students from 60 countries and at all ages and levels of expertise, doing a lot of one-on-one during the month-long online course.

Blur as an Element of Composition

A blurred image taken with a Nikon 7900 Digital CameraA large part of my personal portfolio, the use of blur in my personal photographic work is ever expanding. I’m not condoning sloppy technique that result in a soft image, I’m talking about introducing blur into certain images in order to elicit a desired effect; an abstract study of color and blur. I’ve been working on a portfolio of such images for about 5 years now (hmm, another book idea!).

Color As An Element of Photographic Composition

color and photographic composition by Kevin L MossUsing Color As The Main Subject Matter

You’ll discover that most photographers, regardless of their level of expertise will typically like to shoot a small number of subjects. There is a large army of nature photographers around the world. There are many that are primarily portrait photographers. Some concentrate their photographic efforts on travel (I call them the “lucky ones”). Others photograph a number of different subjects, that’s the category that you should be encouraged to explore.

Search Your Old Digital Camera Files For Treasure

Rescue Lost Treasure by Kevin L Moss Digital Photography DailyRescue Lost Treasures

Shooting digital for 10 years yet? That’s when the digital revolution started to take hold. When was the last time you went back to your image library and reviewed the images you had taken years ago? Free Dreamy Photo Photoshop Filter from Auto FX Software

A Nice Freebie Photoshop Filter or Standalone Application

Auto FX Software has a number of special effect Photoshop plug-ins that I’ve used over the years. One filter in particular,is the Dreamy Photo filter that is part of their Dreamsuite Series product line. I really like the effect of this simple filter, and have used it from time to time with good success. I like the filter to add a colorful glow to certain images, an effect that is difficult to duplicate with consistency in Photoshop (though all the capability is there, this filter is just very convenient!)

The Thin Black Line

Thin Black Line added with Photoshop and Elements. Image taken with a Nikon digital cameraThis is a quick lesson that I picked up through the Epson Print Academy about 5 years ago. Real simple. If you want to add elegance to your images that you display on the web, in print, or even on a digital projector, add a thin border, either white or black, depends on the background.
